RE: Trading for older RV

If you have any kind of experence with hand tools, why not remodel it to suit your needs? We have had ours for a couple of months so far and have pulled out the booth and replaced it with a table and chairs, pulled the sofa out and put in two reclinders, replaced the carpet in the bath with tile and the list goes on. We want it to suit our needs and will keep making changes until it's the way we like it. Besides we enjoy doing the projects together!! Next project is getting rid of all the gold!!!!

RE: Have you used the self-stick tiles on your floor?

I hate stick down tile. But....I just put some in our A's bathroom and it was very easy. I was at Home Depot and they had a tile that looked like real tile on sale for $1 a square foot. It really does look like tile. Just wanted to add that I also bought a seam glue kit that is used on Armstrong sheet vinyl and treated every seam just to make sure the water wouldn't get in the cracks and cause failure.

RE: adding creative new sleeping space

If you are going to rebuild the bedroom, put the booth back in the dining area. Sounds like you have the tools and talent. Very easy to construct or you may be able to pick up one here. A lot of folks are removing them for the table and chair option...

RE: an update on my knee

Have had both knees replaced. Piece of cake. Took 4 weeks to get back to work on the first and 3 weeks on the 2nd. I had the series of shots and the surg. you have had and it will come down to the tkr before you are finished. I am 59 now and wish I had went ahead and had them both done years ago. Lots of pain for years that could have been avoided. Good luck to you...

RE: Polybutylene water lines

Where are you finding this horable (sic) polybut pipe. Mine is as flexible as the day it was installed. I don't understand. All of the people I have talked to who have worked with this pipe say, like me, that it is the fitting that were improperly made.
I think that the lawyers have convinced a lot of people to get there pipe changed when it only needs new fittings. And, no I am not connected with any plumbing organization. I am just reporting what I have found with my own studies of this problem and the results I see with my pipe. I don't know who you have been talking to, but the pipe is crap. I have cut many holes to patch leaks in the walls that were just a fine mist. The pipe gets small pin holes in it and 8 out of 10 times it's what is causing the leak, not the fittings. I am glad that you don't have the problems that thousands of other folks have had. In our settlement, that replaced about 10% of the pipes before abanding the job....Great idea when it came out, but it just didn't work...

RE: Polybutylene water lines

I would get rid of all of it that I could get to. Road Runner has been lucky compaired to the resort I work for. We have leaks all the time that show up in the line as well as the joints. Pex is the way to go. It is easy and makes for a clean looking job. I own a set of crimpers along with a ring buster and they have paid for themselves around the house and on my rv. I added a faucet under my bathroom vanity the other day for my washout and it took about 5 min.s Great stuff...

Pulling a frig is not a big deal. Should be able to have it out in 15 to 20 min.

All part of the risk of reservation. I understand your point of times are hard for familys, but they are no better for the owner of campgrounds either....

RE: PEX Fitting

No, the metal band is smooth, but the fitting has got barbs on it that the tubing grips.
The fitting for the HW heater in question probably looks like this:
http://www.houseneeds.com/shop/Images/vanguard_xrse33th.jpg
The ridges that go around where the PEX tubing slides on are called barbs. My experience has been that once the tubing takes a set from being clamped on there, it doesn't want to slide off easily. heating the tubing allows it to expand and pass easily over the barbs. Not trying to start an arguement, the resort I work for is "blessed" with lots of quest and we have to patch it all the time with pex and I have never heard the rings called barbs. Learn something everyday.

RE: PEX Fitting

I have never seen a barb on a pex ring. We use them every week or so and just use a band buster or dremil tool to cut them and slide them off. Never had to use a heat gun for any part of the process...

RE: Sunseeker Class C motorhome

Hey Rob, we just sold our Sunseeker 2900Le. We moved up to a Class A and looked for a fast sale. Our's was a 2005 and we got 30k for it, so it looks like the price you are looking at is fair. We enjoyed ours and only got rid of it because we want to travel 6 months or so at a time and wanted the extra room. They are kind of plain inside, but we like fixing up any rv we have had to suit our needs. All lower end Cs have the same frig, gen,ac, etc as the big buck ones. It also comes with china tolets, water filter system, etc. that most don't come with. Anyway if you go the Sunseeker route you won't be disapointed.
